**A WELCOME LETTER FROM THE DEPUTY EDITOR OF LGC, MARTIN GEORGE**

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to LGC Net Zero 2022.

While the climate emergency is the biggest threat we face on a global scale, we all know it cannot be addressed without urgent, radical action at the local level. Local government has an indispensable role to play.

The vast majority of councils across the country have declared a climate emergency, and now the agenda has moved on from recognising the importance of the issue to practical questions about how to address it.

As its name suggests, LGC Net Zero 2022 represents a natural evolution of the successful LGC Climate Change conferences we held in 2020 and 2021, and will allow participants to gain invaluable insight into key questions around finance, planning, citizen engagement, procurement, local energy networks and much more.
