Few schools have been intentionally designed to equip students with a sense of purpose, a deep understanding of their identity, social capital, and the social-emotional (SEL) mindsets, tools, and skills necessary to navigate our rapidly changing world. And few provide space for students to deeply explore their purpose and self-identity, and to allow for career exploration through these lenses.
nXu’s research-based, ~175 lesson, middle and high school curriculum addresses these challenges by integrating 5 key developmental areas—purpose, identity, social-emotional wellness, social capital, and career exploration—into a single solution to support students and educators in navigating their personal & professional journeys. We have anchored around purpose for multiple reasons including the correlation between purpose and greater academic engagement, greater resilience, greater well-being, and positive career identities.
When nXu–short for nexus–launched in 2017, we initially implemented a model focused on directly serving students. Over three years, we developed and delivered to multiple cohorts of students initial iterations of our purpose development curriculum. We also validated our curriculum by repeatedly generating measurable growth in purpose and related SEL skills with our students.
nXu delivers best-in-class resources, development, and support to educators so that all students in schools across the country can lead thriving lives, driven by purpose and connected to a community. Our curriculum positions students to thrive in an increasingly complex world by supporting them to cultivate a sense of purpose and define personal & professional pathways while gaining fundamental social-emotional competencies.
Since 2020, we’ve partnered with schools & youth organizations to support educators to implement our curriculum. Our Nexus curriculum supports students to build upon the academic foundation they receive in school by offering learning experiences that help them master non-academic, socio-emotional competencies. By partnering directly with schools and youth organizations, we aspire to transform the way these critical, non-cognitive skills are addressed and explored.
