Contact: Devin Daems, AXES research group, UAntwerpen devin.daems@uantwerpen.be The trafficking and use of illicit drugs represents a serious threat to the well-being of society, with severe health, economic, and political implications. To effectively monitor passing cargo, luggage and people on the presence of illicit drugs, customs, law enforcement and forensic institutes need fast, cost-effective and more accurate tests on-site. By integrating innovative detection strategies and electrochemistry we developed a ground-breaking, easy-to-use and fully portable technology for the specific and accurate fingerprinting of narcotics, cutting agents and adulterants. The valorization and technology of the developed sensor will be further explored within a VLAIO Innovation mandate (spin-off) and a European BorderSens project (Horizon 2020).
