Aminopeptidase N (APN) is a highly efficient transport shuttle through the gut epithelial barrier. Anti-APN single domain antibodies are used as a carrier to target compounds to APN leading to an efficient transport of this complex through the gut epithelium. This enables efficient delivery of pharmaca and antigens (at low dose) to the intestinal mucosa after oral administration. The stimulation of intestinal immune responses after oral administration of anti-APN antibody antigen fusion constructs has been demonstrated.
