Information

Anders will present the latest developments and key achievements of the European High-Performance Computing Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU) in leading the way in European supercomputing.

Bringing together the European Union and 38 participating countries, the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking coordinates investments and pools resources of its members to strengthen Europe’s technological sovereignty and global competitiveness in HPC, AI, and quantum computing.

With the recent adoption of Council Regulation (EU) 2026/150, the EuroHPC JU’s mandate has been expanded with new action pillars dedicated to the deployment of AI Gigafactories across Europe and the advancement of quantum technologies.

Since its creation, the EuroHPC JU has already procured 12 supercomputers, distributed across Europe including JUPITER and Alice Recoque, Europe’s first exascale systems.

European scientists and users from the public sector and industry can benefit from EuroHPC supercomputers via the EuroHPC Access Calls no matter where in Europe they are located, to advance science and support the development of a wide range of applications with industrial, scientific and societal relevance for Europe.

Beyond HPC, the EuroHPC JU is playing a central role in Europe’s AI ambition. It is currently overseeing the deployment of 19 AI Factories across the continent, complemented by 13 AI Factory Antennas. These facilities provide free, customised support to SMEs and start-ups, facilitating access to computing resources, technical expertise, training, and testing environments — thereby accelerating AI uptake across the European economy.

In parallel, the EuroHPC JU is deploying a European quantum computing infrastructure by integrating diverse European quantum technologies with existing supercomputers. This hybrid classical–quantum approach positions Europe at the forefront of next-generation computing.

Finally, the EuroHPC JU invests in research and innovation projects to develop a fully European supercomputing value chain — from processors and system architecture to software, applications, and skills development. By strengthening Europe’s technological base and expertise, the EuroHPC JU is not only building machines, but shaping a sovereign ecosystem for Europe.
