Information
With the demise of Dennard’s scaling, acceleration has become key for further development of performance of HPC applications. There is huge hope that quantum computers (QCs) can be used to accelerate classically hard computational problems within the next five to ten years. Early candidates for applications are hybrid classical-quantum algorithms such as VQA, that require tight coupling and co-scheduling of classical HPC and QC resources. Expected growth in quantum volume and the search for optimal qubit control will also massively drive the need for HPC resources within the execution pipeline of QCs themselves. Thus, successful integration schemes will need to address acceleration in both directions.
European HPC expert ParTec and market leader in quantum control Quantum Machines teamed up to offer a new comprehensive software package that enables tight integration of QCs into HPCs and finely interleaved multi-user access to one or multiple QCs. For maximum performance, the integration works on the level of pulse-level tasks. Tasks from different jobs and users can be prioritized and scheduled according to policies managed by the HPC resource scheduler Slurm, effectively creating a virtual QC environment. Whether you are a small research group or a large scale HPC centre, this will boost your productivity and maximize the scientific throughput on your QCs. The solution provides an off-the-shelf security concept that only allows QC access to authorized users within their scheduled time window and policy constraints.
