CYFRONET

Academic Computer Centre Cyfronet AGH-UST is one of the leading HPC and network centres in Poland.

For almost 50 years of operation Cyfronet has been providing high-quality and high-availability HPC and storage services as well as expertise for the European scientific community, R&D units, and industry. Cyfronet has a long history of operating supercomputers present on the TOP500 list – for the first time our system was mentioned in 1996, and the highest rank so far was 39th in 2015 (Prometheus). At this time there are four supercomputing systems running at Cyfronet: Zeus, Prometheus, Ares and Athena. Their total theoretical performance exceeds 14PF.

The experience of Cyfronet teams includes in particular: development of software enabling the management of distributed infrastructures, adaptation of scientific software to the HPC and cloud infrastructure, optimization of scientific software in terms of performance for various hardware architectures (FPGA, GPGPU, vSMP), development and construction of network connections (MAN and LAN layers).

Cyfronet coordinates the PLGrid infrastructure – the nationwide, grid and cloud computing ecosystem which supports scientists in conducting their research. As the leader of the PLGrid Consortium, which consists of all of the Polish supercomputing centres, Cyfronet represents the Polish activities in EuroHPC, EuroCC and the LUMI Consortium.

With two Data Center locations in Krakow, Cyfronet is also a reliable provider of storage, HPC, cloud and web portal development services for many international research initiatives. Among them the most recognizable are: PRACE, EPOS, EOSC and EGI. Additionally our Centre serves such scientific units and communities as: CERN, Cherenkov Telescope Array, LIGO and Virgo detectors.
