With the arrival of Artificial Intelligence (AI), there is rather a change of era where the vast requirements of HPC in the future will be dominated by the need for data analysis and AI rather than the need for large-scale simulations. The Knut and Wallenberg Foundation is reinforcing the Swedish leading AI position by introducing BerzeliUs, hosted by the National Supercomputer Center (NSC) at Linköping University, the fastest supercomputer in Sweden of 300 AI petaflops. BerzeliUs is an initial investment to meet the growing demands of AI in research.
In this session, Niclas Andersson, Technology Director, National Supercomputer Center (NSC) in Sweden, and Cedric Bourrasset, global business operation, HPC, AI & Quantum in Atos will elaborate on how NSC has joined hands with Atos in realizing the state-of-the-art AI-empowered hardware and software in a world-recording time frame despite the challenging situation during the pandemic. The architecture was chosen, taking into consideration the performance, storage, interconnect, and efficient software management environment.
BerzeliUs is a powerful resource to advance AI research and boost collaboration between academia and the Swedish industry. It will be the center for an investment that not only raises Sweden’s position as a leader in AI research but also gives the Swedish industry great competitive advantages in areas such as autonomous vehicles, life science, pharmaceuticals, and telecommunication.
With BerzeliUs, Linköping University is taking a national responsibility to connect research initiatives within HPC and data processing. The new supercomputer will bring AI research in Sweden into a whole new era.
