Information

Less waste, reduced water consumption, lower emissions – using an energy management system, the Coca-Cola plant in Edelstal, Austria, can now conduct detailed analyses of its resource and energy consumption. The goal is to reduce its carbon footprint even more. CLIENT CHALLENGE One of Coca‑Cola HBC Austria’s top priorities is using resources responsibly and manufacturing the products in a way that’s as environmentally friendly and carbon-efficient as possible. To reduce its consumption of resources like water and energy, the company has invested a lot over the past few years, for example, in one of the world's most high-speed and energy-efficient production lines. However, the options for tracking the success of the energy-saving measures with their own energy management system were extremely limited. OUR APPROACH ➜ In just two months, energy management at Edelstal was transferred to the new system, which included the integration of numerous consumers that are captured by Sentron PAC energy measuring devices. ➜ The consumption data is gathered by a Simatic ET 200SP system and then transferred to Simatic Energy Manager Pro. In addition to the measuring devices for electrical energy, flow meters for recording water consumption are also integrated in the system. THE IMPACT ✓ Reducing carbon footprint: determining the exact consumption and costs for each individual line and each individual has allowed Coca‑Cola HBC Austria in Edelstal to reduce its CO2 emissions by 50 percent in comparison to 2010. ✓ Resource efficiency: being enabled to define savings goals and prove the cost-effectiveness of efficiency measures in the areas of water and energy. ✓ Option for prompt system maintenance: ability to optimize the processes to consume less energy, e.g. by reducing machine maintenance time and aligning the compressors more closely with the demand. ✓ In-house energy management: the system can be be configured and operated completely independently by the plant team.
