You do not get much more remote than OZ Minerals’ West Musgrave copper-nickel project. Located in the Ngaanyatjarra Aboriginal Lands of central Western Australia, it is some 1,300 km northeast of Perth and 1,400 km northwest of Adelaide; near the intersection of the borders between Western Australia, South Australia and the Northern Territory. The nearest towns include the Indigenous Communities of Jameson (Mantamaru), 26 km north; Blackstone (Papulankutja), 50 km east; and Warburton (Milyirrtjarra), 110 km west.

It can also be used to produce heat and to act as a reduction agent, within mineral processing, such as the production of Aluminium and Steel among others. Furthermore, it can be used as a feedstock for the production of chemicals used in the mine such as ammonia, hydrogen peroxide for example. And last but not least, by having an integrated hydrogen infrastructure within the mining ecosystem, it will also provide storage and flexibility to its electrical system, enabling its 24x7 decarbonization, while ensuring a reliable power supply.
