Climate change has become a major political issue and is a factor in social tensions, political destabilisation and migratory pressure. Coupled with the significant increase in the population of emerging countries, it accentuates North-South inequalities and although the international community is making significant financial efforts for their development, few concrete projects are being carried out and their impact often remains limited.

Faced with this new situation, the most vulnerable countries are also the least equipped with the appropriate technological means. Their inability to predict, estimate and then react in real time to natural disasters greatly increases the severity of the toll.

IN ORDER TO RESPOND TO THIS CRITICAL CONTEXT, PROMETHEUS HAS SET ITSELF THE MISSION OF OFFERING ITS CLIENTS SOVEREIGN ENVIRONMENTAL AND STRATEGIC INTELLIGENCE RESOURCES, BASED ON SATELLITE CONSTELLATIONS ASSOCIATED WITH DIGITAL PLATFORMS, BETTER ADAPTED AND OPTIMISED TO CURRENT CHALLENGES.

GEO-INTELLIGENCE IN THE AGE OF NEW SPACE

The repetitiveness of observations is driving new strategies for making images available and enhancing their value, as well as the development of a genuine information economy based on spatial data. The development of advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence and cloud computing facilitates the extraction of value from images by transforming pixels into relevant data, thus addressing a wide range of issues (environment, agriculture, energy, sustainable cities, intelligence, security, etc.) that may be of interest to a large community of users and professions. The aggregation of data from several sources such as the EC Copernicus satellites (optical and radar imagery, Internet of Things - IoT) enables the development of new types of services likely to increase the capacity for action of public authorities.

Thanks to these technologies, the value chain of space imagery has progressively shifted towards downstream processing of the image, to derive information from the observation - in particular the daily detection of any change on the ground at the scale of a metre2 - thus orienting this economy towards a service logic that could be described as Space Data as a Service (SDaaS), the aim of which is to produce information and services with high added value.

PROMÉTHÉE, A FRENCH INNOVATION FOR THE GLOBAL NEW SPACE MARKET

Prométhée innovates by deploying end-to-end space sovereignty solutions, including the space segment but focused on the development of innovative digital services by merging data from different sources such as Copernicus and others.

The combination of latest generation optical technologies (revolutionary in size, weight and performance) with an original business model, allows Prometheus to offer high resolution imaging services, with a worldwide coverage and a high revisit rate, at the most competitive price on the market.

In addition to the classic space segment (satellites, launchers, operational data exploitation, etc.), each member country of the consortium will master its own digital application platform, equipped with European know-how in big data, artificial intelligence, deep learning and blockchain.

This approach, based on digital competence centres developed in the host countries, will enable them to respond to their local agenda, while preparing their industry and workforce for the new challenges of the digital revolution.

The civil applications of Prometheus are almost limitless, from the fight against deforestation in Brazil, to the control of critical infrastructures such as pipelines in Mexico, via road cutters in Côte d'Ivoire, agriculture, land registration in Africa in general, the protection of fishing in the Gulf of Guinea, and the optimisation of transport by land and sea.. routes. First applications have been modelled through demonstrators on Air pollution, CO2 Emissions, tele-epidemiology, and a Land Degradation Neutrality oriented service serving the needs of the Great Green Wall deployment projects and the people living in this region.

The countries with which Prometheus has initiated a dialogue are primarily “space” emerging countries in Latin America and Africa.

THE PROMETHEUS AGENDA

After having federated an industrial consortium, Prométhée set up its technical team, which includes more than twenty engineers and collaborators with an average of more than 20 years of experience in space and its applications. An Advisory Board has been set up with 12 leading personalities in the space, digital, sustainable development and security fields. A fundraising of 2.2 million euros took place in September 2020, bringing together private investors and leading industrialists in the sector. Today, the company has equity capital of around €3 million and is in the final stages of closing a new €10 million private fundraising round, opening the door to complementary substantial public funding.

This process will secure the launch of a "Proof Of Concept" constellation by end of 2023. The contract with the European Satellite manufacturer is close to signature. The first full size operational constellation will be available by 2025 at the latest.
