Information
Copernicus is the European Union’s flagship Earth Observation Programme. Of the six Copernicus thematic services (Atmosphere, Marine, Land, Climate Change, Security and Emergency), the European Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) operates two on behalf of the European Commission: the Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) and the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS). ECMWF also contributes to the Copernicus Emergency Management Service (CEMS).
C3S adds value to environmental measurements by providing consistent information on the climate anywhere in the world, allowing users to look into the past and make informed decisions about the future, while CAMS provides vital data to support policymakers, businesses and individuals in dealing with air pollution episodes and preparing for the future in the context of a changing atmosphere. The core role of ECMWF Copernicus Services is to provide free, full and open access to quality-assured data and tools related to climate change and atmospheric monitoring.
