Neptune Energy is a Germany-based exploration and production company with more than 135 years of experience in the energy sector. In the Altmark region of Saxony-Anhalt, Germany, the company is developing a major brine-based lithium resource using Direct Lithium Extraction (DLE).
In the current project phase, Neptune Energy is testing different DLE technologies through multiple pilot projects using brine from existing natural gas wells in the Altmark field. Following technology selection and an extensive subsurface campaign, the company plans to build an extraction plant as the next step toward a full-scale commercial facility.
The Altmark is considered one of Europe’s most significant lithium deposits. Current expert estimates suggest a resource potential of approximately 50 million tonnes of lithium carbonate equivalent (LCE). Commercial scaling is targeted for the 2030s, with planned annual production of up to 25,000 tonnes of lithium carbonate.
