Information

The conflict in Ukraine came as a cruel reminder that heating is not only one of the main challenges to achieving carbon neutrality and tackling climate change, but it is also a matter of energy security across the globe.

To keep the heat on, we must boost energy efficiency and dramatically accelerate the rollout of renewable, circular and sustainable heat sources such as waste heat, solar heat and power, geothermal, bioenergy, etc.

The good news is that DHC networks can do just that. With a pretty performant and readily available technology toolbox to make this happen: large-scale heat pumps, e-boilers, thermal storage, highly-efficient cogeneration, digitalisation and low-temperature, DHC can harvest local and sustainable heating sources to decarbonise buildings, neighbourhoods and cities.

On the way to 2050, the shift to renewables for heating and cooling is challenging and will require tailor-made instruments, enabling policies and regulations. This panel will gather high-level representatives from the industry to draw the contours of a successful sustainable DHC transition.
