Foundations and Futures is a multimedia online (open access) and print textbook on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the U.S. and diasporas. The innovative website and accompanying textbook will contain 50 chapters reflecting the diverse histories and experiences of various ethnic and national AAPI groups written by top experts in the field. Designed for grades 9-14, it will offer over 200 lesson plans, engaging multimedia and compelling questions for history and social sciences that address broad questions through the lens of AAPI experiences. It is published by the Asian American Studies Center at UCLA, home to the largest hub of Asian American Studies teaching, research and public engagement in the U.S. Chapters are authored by top scholars and public intellectuals nationally and lesson plans are written by experienced teachers and educators using an ethnic studies pedagogy that emphasizes cross-cultural understanding and empathy and understanding various structures of power to enable students to move from knowledge to informed action towards a more equal, democratic and just society.
