THE WORLD'S MOST POWERFUL E-DRIVE AT SAFE-TO-TOUCH VOLTAGES

In low power electric marine applications up to 15 kW, 48 V are very common. Beyond this range high-voltage (HV) systems with up to 800 V are the only option so far. However, HV is not desirable, especially for water applications. The new electric drive ISCAD V50 by MOLABO differs from conventional electric drives in many ways. With a safe-to-touch voltage of 48 V, the drive produces a peak power of 80 kW and a nominal power of 50 kW. Installed in a 7.1 m boat weighing 1 t, ISCAD V50 accelerates the boat to a speed of 28 knots.

A low-voltage system has a decisive advantage compared to a HV system: contact is possible without risk. Due to the low voltage the electric drive ISCAD V50 can be installed and maintained by virtually everyone, without special HV certification. Contact with a HV system, on the other hand, can be harmful without appropriate safety precautions. 

The technology is based on a new patented design of the electric motor: instead of complicated windings in the stator solid bars are used which form a kind of cage. The ISCAD technology is a highly parallel system. In the motor the currents are spread over many phases by the innovative controller. This makes it possible to develop high traction performance at 48 V very efficiently. Another advantage resulting from the stator cage design with many bars is that ISCAD is more robust and fail-safe than conventional electric drives, as operation is still possible even in case of failures.  

INCREASED EFFICIENCY DUE TO LOW-VOLTAGE SEMICONDUCTORS

The controller and especially its power electronics is a key element of ISCAD. Low-voltage semiconductors, so-called Si-MOSFETs, can be used instead of IGBTs. These are much more efficient and cost-effective, which makes the drive very economical.  At the optimum operating point, ISCAD V50 has a measured system efficiency of more than 95.6 %. The system efficiency is the combined efficiency of the controller and the electrical machine. To achieve such a high system efficiency, the motor has an efficiency of 97 % and the inverter an efficiency of 98 %. It is also worth mentioning that the efficiency is above 90 % in almost the entire operating area of the drive. With ISCAD you can get out the most of your battery and maximize the operating range of your boat.  

ISCAD V50 combines controller and motor in a single unit. With a length of only 265.5 mm and a diameter of 254 mm it is very compact and can be easily integrated in your marine application.
