Senior 3D Artists at Coatsink are primarily responsible for the creation of 3D assets for our games. Working very closely with your Art Lead, Designers and other departments, they bring the collective vision of the project into reality. Senior 3D Artists can be generalists and require a strong level of game engine implementation knowledge. The senior 3D Artist works closely with Art Leads and/or the Art Director. They are often expected to work within strict timeframes, providing assets for project deliveries. Senior 3D Artists will have a solid foundation in art, understanding of form, composition, light and colour for both 2D and 3D art. Whilst focusing on asset creation the Senior 3D Artist will often be provided opportunities to specialise in areas they are particularly passionate about.
Role and key responsibilities
Activities include, but are not limited to: - Modelling and texturing 3D assets. - Researching materials and creating reference boards for asset creation. - Assisting with World building, scene dressing and asset implementation. - Communicating effectively with other developers. - Attending meetings and stand-ups punctually. - Providing time estimates for fulfilling tasks. - Using source control. - Engagement with other members of the art department providing guidance and feedback. - Contribution to sprint planning and task creation.
Skills and main qualifications
Required Experience - Relevant degree in Games Art or equivalent. - Proficiency in a leading 3D modelling package. (3DSMax / Maya) - Proficiency in a leading 2D painting / texturing package. (Photoshop) - Strong Knowledge of asset implementation within a leading real-time games engine. (Unity / Unreal) - A portfolio of work demonstrating excellent artistic skills and a good mind for innovative visual design Preferred/Desirable Experience of - 1+ shipped title - 2+ years of games industry experience - Strong knowledge of 3DSMax, Photoshop and Unity. - Knowledge of the technical constraints linked to real time, 3D engines and level editors. - Ability to create high quality assets under heavy technical constraints (i.e. assets for mobile). - Knowledge of source control (SVN, Git) and file management Required personal skills and approach - Ability to create 3D environment assets, according to the game style and art direction. - Ability to create both organic and hard surface assets. - Strong texture skills towards high and low poly assets. - Versatility towards working with different artistic styles and processes. - Deliver clean and optimised low polygon models, and efficient UV layouts. - Integrate assets and textures into the game engine. - Strong notion of proportions and a good eye for detail. - Solid understanding of composition and visual communication when building scenes. - Work in a collaborative spirit both within the team and with other departments, such as Concept Art, Animation, Game Design, etc. - Willingness to learn and adapt following the needs of a project. - Strong problem solving skills.
