DCED Webinar: New Environmental Regulations and Implications for Developing Countries

As global efforts to combat climate change intensify, governments are adopting increasingly stringent environmental legislation. In particular, the European Union’s Green Deal has spurred wide-ranging measures—such as the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), and the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD)—that impose new due diligence and sustainability obligations on businesses. These regulations are reshaping global trade patterns and pressing firms in low- and middle-income economies to act swiftly to remain competitive.

In this 90-minute webinar, experts will share insights from the DCED Business Environment Working Group’s latest research and policy note, illustrating how these regulations affect firms in Turkey, Peru, Cote d’Ivoire, and beyond. We will then explore compliance costs, SME preparedness, and lessons from various reform initiatives. The session concludes with recommendations for development partners, followed by an open Q&A.
