Derisking HPAPI Processing with Hierarchy of Control Measures

Throughout the entire process, containment is a fundamental aspect of HPAPI production. Unit operations such as weighing, dispensing, feeding the granulator and washing IBCs should not be overlooked, for example, and it’s important to remember that the required level of equipment and containment performance is not simply a matter of measuring the Occupational Exposure Limit (OEL) of the product.

This common misconception often results in a tendency within the industry to over-specify. Using a real-life case study as an example, David will map the movement of an HPAPI through a production line and assess the containment considerations that must be taken at each stage. From blending and wet granulation to direct compression, he will demonstrate how to translate the Hierarchy of Control into the process design and highlight the cost-effective use of equipment for HPAPI facilities. A better understanding of the risks posed by various hazards allows operators to make more informed containment choices, ensure the safety of staff and prevent cross-contamination.
