Information

Story of the Sham Shui Po Prisoners of War Camp It Won't Be Long Now is two solo show set in 1940s Hong Kong that follows the experiences of a British prisoner of war incarcerated in the Sham Shui Po Barracks by the Japanese and the story of a Hong Konger during the Japanese occupation of 3 years and 8 months. It shows the hardships and suffering, the forced labour and punishments but it also reveals the enduring humanity and will to survive that still exists when everything else has been stripped away. The show brings the life inside and outside of the prison camp in Sham Shui Po to the stage in an expressive physical style. Using images as metaphors and a specially written text, it tells both the outward story of imprisonment, hunger and building the Kai Tak Airport runway and the inward story of irrational optimism conquering doubt and despair. It Won’t Be Long Now consists of two solos show. In the first half, Indy Lee performs the story of the Hong Kongers outside the prison camp during the Japanese Occupation in Cantonese and Bill Aitchison performs all the characters suffering in the POW in English as the second half of the show.
