The complex simplicity of Porro design for The Ritz-Carlton Residences in Miami Beach

The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Miami Beach, are a private property that will include 111 condominium homes and 15 single-family villas, bringing together exceptional amenities and services with modern architecture and design unmatched in South Florida. Set in a quiet corner of Miami Beach where lake, ocean and waterway meet, the Piero Lissoni-designed project will offer luxury waterfront living—seven acres of gardens, pools, entertainment spaces and a private marina. In the elegant lobby, simplicity hides the maximum level of complexity: the inner space, in connection with the garden, the water and the Marina and marked by the stunning staircase, is divided by a long carbone oak System bookcase supplied by Porro, storing books and fine arts collection among its irregular shelves. Versatile, intelligent, flexible: System has a strong and balanced personality defining the room in a definitive way, while improving its efficiency and appearance. In front of it, a Materic table by Piero Lissoni dominates with a thin verde rameggiato marble table top, laying on a black stained ash turned truncated cone as a base. A sculptural object where the absolute simplicity of design is juxtaposed to the sophistication of materials and workmanships, it is combined with different design chairs, like Neve, the chair with exact yet soft lines, reinterpreting the classic wooden chair in a contemporary vein. While the support structure is characterized by a frame of slightly inclined, clear lines of various thicknesses, the roundness of the spindle legs and the slim curvature of the back and suspended seat soften its figure, making it extremely welcoming and intimate.
