Vintage Noragi jackets
Haori
Information
Noragi are a type of casual cotton jacket which originated in the Edo period as everyday clothing for common people. Sumptuary laws prevented those who were not of elite or samurai class from wearing silk, so many families spun and woven their own cotton cloth, which was hand stitched into a variety of types of work clothing. Since they were worn for daily use, they were often patched and stitched through their long lives. Many of these pieces are early to mid 20th century pieces, but they retain the history of those that came before.
