BDIA CSIDI Campaign The BDIA Counterfeit and Substandard Instruments and Devices Initiative (CSIDI) Campaign was launched to address the growing problem of counterfeit and substandard devices within the dental sector. The campaign, which has been partnered with by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency, is an industry-wide activity that: Promotes awareness of the dangers of poor quality, counterfeit and illegal dental instruments and devices Provides a quick and simple method of reporting these to the relevant bodies Promotes purchasing only from reputable manufacturers and suppliers such as our BDIA member companies Internet sales channels and the globalisation of dental manufacturing has provided an opportunity for unscrupulous operators to sell poor quality, substandard or even counterfeit and illegal products. It is vitally important that dental professionals make the decision to purchase from reliable sources to ensure expert quality and efficacy of their products. By purchasing only from reputable suppliers, the end user can be assured of a high quality product that meets all the necessary requirements and that will not endanger the user or the patient, nor risk punitive actions from the courts or regulatory bodies. We work closely with the BDA, the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), the Oral Health Foundation (OHF) and the Tooth Whitening Information Group (TWIG), and across the dental profession, to encourage the reporting of those selling substandard and illegal products and promote responsible purchasing throughout the dental supply chain.
