Bamboo-Polymer Composites

Bamboo is a widely available low-cost bio-based fibrous material which has a high tensile strength-to-weight ratio. This presentation will cover some innovative work carried out to develop bamboo-polymer composites which takes advantage of the natural benefits of and mitigate its moisture absorption employing some unusual processing techniques. The targeted application takes advantage of the combination of the tensile strength of these natural bio-fiber-based composites with the compressive strength of concrete to provide overall suitability for applications in construction of large-scale low-cost housing.
