Paper ID: C2025-00484 ABSTRACT: UNS N08935 is a relatively new super-austenitic stainless steel with high Cr, Ni, and Mo contents. The high general corrosion resistance combined with Pitting Resistance Equivalent Number of 52 translates into excellent corrosion resistance in acids and Chloride bearing environments such as seawater and several processes in chemical, petrochemical, and refining industries. This paper describes a few case studies of applications where this alloy has been installed and proven to be a good solution with a high performance-to-cost ratio, including different industries such as renewable fuel production, seawater coolers in refineries, and heat exchangers to handle wastewater and acids. Corrosion testing results such as corrosion rate, Critical Pitting Temperature, and Stress Corrosion Cracking Resistance in relevant process environments, based on which this material was selected, will be presented in this paper. The corrosion tests illustrate that UNS N08935 can be a good cost-effective alternative to Nickel alloys such as UNS N04400, UNS N06625 and UNS N10276 in many corrosive environments.
