Information

The SharedWork program is a trusted government business-friendly program serving employers since 1983. There is no cost to complete the employer application process to obtain an approved one-year plan.

The SharedWork program preserves employees’ jobs and employers’ trained workforces during times of lowered economic activity.

SharedWork allows employers to reduce hours of work for employees rather than laying-off some employees while others continue to work full time. Those employees experiencing a reduction in hours are allowed to collect a percentage of their unemployment compensation benefits to replace a portion of their lost wages. SharedWork cushions the adverse effect of the reduction in business activity on workers by averting layoffs and ensures that these workers will be available to resume prior employment levels when business demand increases.

The Work Opportunity Tax Credit program is a tax incentive opportunity that rewards employers for hiring certain job seekers that help them become self-sufficient. It provides employers a tax credit up to $9,600 per qualifying new employee during the first year of employment. Timely filing is required. To apply, the employer must submit IRS Form 8850 and ETA Form 9061 within 28 calendar days of the employee's start date.
