Interface’s sustainability journey began with Mission Zero® – a public commitment to have no negative impact by 2020. In 2019, the company announced the success of Mission Zero®, in part by becoming the first global flooring manufacturer to
sell all products as carbon neutral across their life cycle. This ambitious approach inspired innovation across all areas of the organisation – from sourcing raw materials, to manufacturing and the management of products at end of life.
Mission Zero® was just the beginning. In 2016, Interface launched Climate Take Back™, which is taking the company beyond eliminating its negative environmental impact, to helping to reverse climate change and inspiring other organisations to do the same.
Interface’s latest innovation, CQuest™Bio, is a bio-composite backing, containing bio based and recycled fillers that include carbon negative materials to help lower its embodied carbon footprint by around a third compared to traditional backings Interface’s ultimate goal is to become a carbon negative enterprise by 2040.
