With the explosion of data driven by advances in big data analytics and artificial intelligence, processing data-intensive workloads is becoming an increasingly important task, one that requires a solution that goes beyond current processor-centric structures to deliver greater memory capacity, bandwidth, and computing performance. SK hynix Computational Memory Solution (CMS) is the ultimate solution for data-intensive workloads, an intelligent memory solution that adopts a near-data processing (NDP) approach. CMS benefits include: 1) Full utilization of internal memory bandwidth with use of NDP cores, optimized for data-intensive workloads, for efficient handling; 2) Ample memory capacity in CMS card built on SK hynix’s cutting-edge memory technology; 3) Significant reduction of energy consumption overhead related to data movement, owing to data reduction in CMS card; 4) Cost-effective scalability, allowing easy system scale-up and eliminating need to buy entire server systems just to add more memory channels We prepared the first CMS prototype to demonstrate such advantages.
