Information

How can a more expensive process per acre be more profitable? Retaining more forage nutrients through less harvest losses, and less storage losses with baled silage can prove it true. But the best reason to make round bale silage is better quality forage in the first place. Round bale silage can allow you harvest more vegetative nutritious plants or harvest earlier, avoiding precipitation events so your resultant feed is higher energy and protein. These benefits combined will allow you to reduce reliance on purchased energy and protein supplements and increase the total yield off of your farm. As with every process there are tricks of the trade including harvest timing, moisture content, plastic layers, crop differences and basic baling and wrapping issues. But with good planning these issues can all be accomplished, and you can improve your livestock nutrition and profitability all at the same time.
