Information

The Water Management Project will be conducted in unison with the Saskatchewan Water Security Agency. The aim of the project is to develop and implement a water management plan over approximately 40 acres within Discovery Farm Langham that contains wetlands of varying classes. It is a consolidation project, which will drain water from several smaller wetlands into a larger, more permanent wetland. Our goal is to illustrate the process of how to properly design and implement a water management plan that strikes a balance between maximizing the economic productivity of the land and preserving important ecological services. Pending additional funding, a subsequent multi-year research project will be initiated on the drained land to evaluate the actions of various agronomic management practices such as tillage, variable-rate fertility, and novel cropping practices to reduce the export of nutrients in run-off water. Industry partners on this project include Saskatchewan Water Security Agency, Saskatchewan Soil Conservation Association, and Saskatchewan Stock Growers Association.
