Le Patin Libre

Juried Showcase Artists

Information

Le Patin Libre is now well-known for its choreographic shows, finally making virtuosic ice-skating worthy of the artistic scene. No sparkles, no princesses, no pastiches.

We’re all about a poetic and thrilling choreography of speed.

We have toured the most prestigious arts and dance festivals since 2014. We turn rinks into theatres with our seats and lighting kit. We pride ourselves at doing it economically, on a small scale. We’re the small indie alternative to big cheesy ice shows.

Since 2013, we also perform on roller-skates. On wheels, we do street shows.

The company was founded by figure skating competitors who wanted to do something cool and freed from the traditions of “on Ice” show business. We started by outdoor shows in winter carnivals before being spotted by big contemporary dance presenters.

In 2014, Vertical Influences, our first hit on the arts scene, changed our lives. Since then, we tour intensively the best arts festivals and theatres (daring to go off-site).

From the ice to the stage:

During the summer of 2013, two of our founding artists created a street performance, to pass the hat during a creation residency in Berlin.

The performance was remarked by the artistic director of a dance festival taking vacations in Berlin. Since then, we tour Wheels and cello professionally, in contexts adapted to the original spirit of the piece: reaching out, performing outdoors, giving something special to passers-by.

We recently decided to take this capacity to theatre stages.

Thanks to special financial support from the Ministère de la Culturel du Québec, we will make roller-skating a respected choreographic medium, and not only a spectacular gadget.
