About me
Phyllis Papadavid is a Senior Research Fellow at ODI’s International Economic Development Group.
She has written extensively on international finance, macroeconomic shocks, financing economic transformation and the economics of exchange rates. For over two decades, Phyllis held leadership roles in the Global Foreign Exchange and Global Economics Teams at BNP Paribas, Société Générale CIB and Lehman Brothers.
With over 20 years of experience, Phyllis has focused on the transmission of financial shocks in developing and emerging economies. She is an expert in analysing the effects of currencies, financial flows and sudden stops on low-income economies with high external debt burdens. Her work also examines how financial crises impact the prospects for economic transformation.
Phyllis has advised multilateral organisations on the management of exchange rates, including the World Bank, the African Development Bank, the United Nations and major financial institutions and central banks globally. She has also served as Associate Faculty in the graduate programme in Applied Analytics and Strategy at Columbia University.
Her research has been featured in UK and global media, including in the Financial Times, BBC, Bloomberg, The New York Times and Barrons Asia's Best Minds. She has been a frequent guest on the BBC, CNBC and CNN, among others. Phyllis holds degrees from Columbia University, The London School of Economics and Political Science and SOAS University of London.
