About me

Farhan Abdulkadir Yassin is the Founder and CEO of Horn Afrique Poultry Farm (HAPF), one of Ethiopia’s largest and most successful poultry enterprises, based in Jijiga. With over 100 staff and more than 50,000 layer chickens, HAPF integrates climate-smart agricultural practices to support livelihoods among refugees, IDPs, and host communities. Farhan has over 15 years of experience in humanitarian and development sectors, managing projects funded by USAID, the EU, and UN agencies. His work has focused on livelihoods, health, nutrition, WASH, and education in emergencies, particularly in Ethiopia’s Somali and Oromia regions. He has held key roles at Save the Children International, UNHCR and ACDI/VOCA leading initiatives that transitioned refugee support from basic aid to sustainable, employment-driven solutions. Academically, he holds a BSc in Agriculture and Rural Development and an MSc in Pastoral Economics and Development. He has also received leadership and technical training in Kenya, Tanzania, and Hungary, and worked as an expatriate staff member in Iraq. Farhan is an advocate for inclusive growth and resilience-building and continues to consult independently while driving innovation in agriculture and refugee integration. He is also a co-founder of the Somali Non-State Actors Coalition (SONSAC) and the Umbrella for Somali Region Intellectuals, and has contributed to several publications on refugee livelihoods and regional policy.
