General travel information about Kenya and Nairobi

Applying for visa

● You can check the visa requirements for your nationality at https://etakenya.go.ke/en. This portal can also be used to apply a visa if you require one. Note that your passport should be valid for at least 6 months.

● Please contact Leah Njagi at seminarsupport@enterprise-development.org, or WhatsApp: +254 734785304, if you require supportive documents to facilitate the application process or you need assistance when applying.

● Please note that a Kenyan ETA is valid for 3 months from the date of issuance. An ETA holder should enter Kenya within 3 months from the date of issuance. The length of stay in Kenya begins on the date of entry into Kenya, NOT from the date of ETA issuance.

● Please note that the time it takes to acquire a Kenyan ETA may vary – apply on time.

Vaccinations, medication and precautions

● Yellow fever vaccination is mandatory for entry into Kenya. Please ensure that you have your vaccination card with you as checks are done before proceeding to the immigration desk. The Kenyan port health authorities accept that Yellow fever vaccinations are valid for life, contrary to earlier guidance that they had an expiry date. The Port Health desk at the airport can administer yellow fever vaccination upon arrival, for non-vaccinated individuals, at a cost of Ksh 2500 ($25).

● Check with your healthcare provider for recommended vaccinations and prophylaxes.

● Please ensure that you bring with you an adequate supply of your regular chronic medication (if applicable).

● Do not drink tap water. Bottled water is safe to drink and is provided in the hotel and can be purchased in the restaurants and grocery stores.

Getting around and safety tips

● Be aware of your surroundings, especially at night. Avoid walking outside after dark, even for short distances. This also applies to the area surrounding the Nairobi Serena hotel. Instead use a reputable taxi service or ask the front desk for assistance.

● Getting around Nairobi is easy with ride-hailing apps such as Uber or Little Cab for convenient and reliable transportation.

● For those interested in a private airport transfer, please refer to the following information.

● Please carry appropriate clothing. Dress modestly, especially in religious or rural areas. Respect local customs and traditions.

● Tipping is not mandatory in Kenya. Guides, drivers, waiters, porters, and hotel staff can be tipped at your discretion.
