Description
MANUAL is a show that takes place covertly in a public library for one person at a time. Through a series of tiny actions, a performer guides the viewer through a quiet, profoundly sensory experience in the library. They walk through the space and listen together. They look at books and read to each other. Fragments of photographs and sound recordings blur into one another. And as the piece progresses a web of reflections emerge on the act of listening and reading with another person. With MANUAL, Kinner and Willes (Montreal) stage a quiet meditation on the library as a site of shared attention. For the YPAM Fringe presentation, the artists have chosen to stage a version of the work without permission in a public space. For this reason there may be contingencies involved in viewing the work, and aspects of the work are different than official presentations because of the guerilla nature of this showing.
