Vancouver Film School (VFS)In 1987, Vancouver Film School introduced the world’s first true immersion film program to 12 Film Production students. Today, VFS is Canada’s premier entertainment-arts centre, offering an immersive curriculum in film, animation, video game production, VR/AR development, motion and interactive design, programming, art/production foundation, and other related programs. VFS alumni are consistently credited on the most successful products in the entertainment economies.
The keys to the VFS educational model are structured intensity and immersion in the industry. Vancouver Film School was founded on the philosophy that one year of concentrated work, balancing industry-led theory and hands-on production, gives students the necessary skills to craft a professional-level portfolio or reel and prepares them to work in the industry immediately upon graduation.
VFS offers 16 signature post-secondary programs — spanning every aspect of the entertainment arts — that are developed and taught by award-winning industry professionals. These programs are divided into VFS’s three schools: School of Film & Television, School of Animation & Visual Effects, and School of Games & Creative Design. Each program’s intensive curriculum evolves along with demands of the industry.
Recently, VFS introduced CONNECT – part-time, online learning that features short-track workshops and certificate courses. Covering a wide-range of content – from film production, to acting, to game design fundamentals and beyond – CONNECT is an opportunity for students to top-up their creatives skillsets and prepare for post-secondary education at VFS.
While attending VFS, students are physically and mentally immersed in Vancouver’s film, animation, game, and design industries that surround VFS’ campuses, and benefit from career guidance and expertise from industry mentors, instructors, and guest speakers.
